This symposium is the 9th in a series of international meetings devoted to the analysis of human variations in complex human diseases. Aspects to be covered this year will include methods/strategies for effective utilization of different types of DNA variation (e.g., single nucleotide polymorphisms-SNPs and copy number variations-CNVs), functional genomics applications, population genetics, ethics, bioinformatics, and the study of human disease.

Reports of previous meetings in this highly successful series can be found in Science (1998,281:1787-9), Nature Genetics (1998, 20:217-8), Trends Genetics (2001, 17:15-16), Human Mutation (2001, 17:Special Issue), European Journal Human Genetics (1999, 7:98-101; 2000, 8:154-156; 2001, 9:316-318; 2002, 10:153-155), Pharmacogenomics (2004, 5:153-156), and Human Genetics (2006, 119:451-456). The HGV2006 meeting report is published in Nature Genetics (2007, 39:153-155).

Meeting Format
Attendance at the meeting is competitive, based upon quality of submitted abstracts. Initial applications to attend must therefore be accompanied by one or more relevant scientific abstracts. One abstract (and likewise one set of results) cannot, however, be used to support the application of more than one individual.

The deadline for applications (including abstract submission) is 15 May 2007, and acceptance/rejection decisions will be made on or before 31 May 2007. Confirmation of attendance, with payment, is due on or before 1 July 2007.

All meeting participants are required to present the science described in their accepted abstract, in poster or oral format, as chosen by the abstract selection committee.

A number of meeting grants are available to students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members from under-represented groups, who are encouraged to attend this international meeting. Please indicate your interest in competing for a meeting grant when submitting your abstract.
